Marseille tops Lorient for first win

Soccer Betting Lines

08/21/2010 - Marseille, France (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Gabriel Heinze and Taye Taiwo scored and defending champion Marseille defeated Lorient, 2-0, on Saturday for its first win - and points - of the French Ligue 1 season.

Marseille lost to promoted Caen and Lorient in its first two games, but Heinze scored inside six minutes at the Stade Velodrome to spark the victory. Taiwo added the second goal in the 72nd minute.

Heinze scored the first goal after Lorient goalkeeper Lionel Cappone deflected a shot from Andre Ayew. Heinze converted the rebound from just a few yards out to open the scoring.

Taiwo sealed all three points in the closing stages, when a corner kick found him on the edge of the area and he drilled a shot post Cappone.

Marseille signed French striker Andre-Pierre Gignac and Loic Remy, two of the top scorers in Ligue 1 last season this week, but neither played. Gignac has yet to finalize his move, while Remy is waiting for test results to determine the extent of a heart problem.

Daniel Braathen and Etienne Didot scored as Toulouse built a two-goal lead and held on for a 2-1 win over promoted Arles to win its third straight. Braathen scored in the 36th for his third goal of the young season, and Didot added his second goal of the season in the 61st. Arles has lost its first three games.

Jean Makoun scored in the 19th minute as Lyon also posted its first win of the season, 1-0 over promoted Brest.

Also Saturday, Paul Alo'o Efoulou scored in the 85th to give Nancy a 1-1 draw vs. Nice, Sebastien Roudet scored late as Lens rallied for a 2-2 draw against Monaco, Auxerre tied Valenciennes 1-1 and Rennes tied St. Etienne 0-0.

On Sunday, Caen will try to join Toulouse with three wins through three games when it visits Montpellier, Lille visits Sochaux, and Bordeaux will try to get its first win at PSG.
